We had an incredible R&D week working on ‘Tremor We had an incredible R&D week working on ‘Tremors’ culminating in a rehearsed reading @ContactMcr. Thank to everyone who supported us. The piece will continue to develop. (More info in the pics).
I’ve become disillusioned with mainstream news s I’ve become disillusioned with mainstream news so subscribed to @redpeppermagazine. It’s a quarterly magazine and website of left politics and culture. A socialist publication drawing on feminist, green and anti-racist politics, they seek to be a space for debate on the left, a resource for movements for social justice, and a home for open-minded anti-capitalists.

They’re completely independent, and ‘while not rejecting party politics, seeks to help build the kind of pluralistic, dynamic movements which can fundamentally challenge our economic system, with its entrenched injustice, structures of power and oppression, and tendency towards war and environmental destruction.’ Although based in London, they have links around Britain, and have always covered events and perspectives from outside the capital.

They are a non-profit magazine & are operating on a shoestring. Consider becoming a subscriber. I’ve just started reading @malia_bouattia’s editorial & am hooked already. If you’re all about radical interrogations of political realities and power relations, or want to learn more about to effect real change, order yourself a copy!
The most grotesque thing in all of this for me, wa The most grotesque thing in all of this for me, was the answer to my question “how on earth did you deliver that performance without breaking?” The answer that came; Hafsah’s just used to it, she’s become resilient. That is the most disturbing and grotesque statement I have heard, I think ever. She can play this part and tell this story without breaking, because she has become used to abuse. It’s 2019, and we have a uniquely talented writer and actress telling her audience she’s had to be resilient to racism all her life, so the part she plays in this production, she can simply take in her stride. She can portray the pain without drowning in it, because Islamophobia is her every day. And I wish that wasn’t true. I wish the Government of this country wasn’t seemingly spring-boarding an agenda of racism and segregation under the guise of education and student safety. I wish I wasn’t sitting here thinking twice about editing out that last sentence. This play has been a long time coming.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who needs to see this play? Everybody. EVERYBODY.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Horrifically, your play didn’t tell me anything Horrifically, your play didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know, it didn’t tell me anything more shocking than what I have seen and heard from people I have met and worked with. But your play has left me numb, exhausted, shaken. The whole production immersed me through the images, the audio and most of all, the acting. Acting seems a woefully inadequate word for what I have just experienced. The subject itself is inherently hugely emotive, even for those with only half an ounce of empathy, but the performance took me on a journey I couldn’t possibly have expected and now I can’t properly explain…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
